We love the taste, ABBA sang about it, Cleopatra swore by it and the Romans used honey as a gift to the gods and extensively in cooking. We have more than 4,000 years of recorded use of honey as medicine from the ancient world to the present.
Now science is catching up to what many women have known for years. Honey, especially raw or unpasteurized, is a fabulously versatile and all-natural ingredient to use on skin. It is antibacterial, which helps with acne treatments and prevention. It’s also a great moisturizer that soothes blemishes, and it leaves a lovely afterglow.
Here are 4 benefits of Honey:
Acne: Honey is naturally antibacterial, so it's great for acne treatment and prevention.
Aging: Full of antioxidants, it is great for slowing down aging.
Complexion boost: It is extremely moisturizing and soothing, so it helps create a glow.
Pores: Honey is clarifying because it opens up pores making them easy to unclog.
The Koreans are very into locally sourcing their honey — some honey is sourced from Jiri Mountain or YooChae honey (sourced from Jeju Island), where they don't use pesticides, so the formula won't be contaminated. One of Korea’s biggest current trends is using honey as a skincare ingredient and multi-functionally as a fusion of skincare and makeup. For an example dual sided lip treatment/lip tint.
Here are some of my favourite products at the moment:
SKINFOOD MOISTURE GEL HONEY - A moisturizing gel with 90% honey extract to hydrate sensitive, dry chapped skin. Gives rough skin nutrition and glow.
HONEY SLEEPING PACK - This sleeping pack is rich of honey, which provides essential nutrients to the skin.
SKINFOOD HONEYPOT LIP BALM - This lush lip balm is easy to apply and fun to use. Just a dab will give your lips a glossy, kissable shine and will keep your lips moisturized for hours. Comes with clear or with a touch of reddish pink color
TONY MOLY RED APPLETOX HONEY CREAM -a nice daily moisturizer and great for drier skin types which need a little pick me up when their skin is looking dull!
One reason why we should use honey is for its wholesome, all-natural image; more and more consumers are demanding cosmetics and personal care products made from natural ingredients.
And also it smells good and taste good. The final word will be from an expert we all love:
The only reason for making a buzzing-noise that I know of is because you're a bee...The only reason for being a bee that I know of is making honey....and the only reason for making honey is so I can eat it.
