My favourite Korean face masks.

May 18, 2016

To say that I'm obsessed with Korean beauty products is an understatement, and one of my tried and true skincare favorites is sheet masks. Trust me, when you start you can't stop.

I used to spend my a lot of my time on an airplane working as cabin crew doing long haul and despite the jet lag and the exhaustion and the dehydration, using a sheet mask made my skin looking better than ever. There was something so relaxing about setting aside 20 minutes on certain evenings.

While the trend of snapping selfies in a sheet mask is new (and really fun), sheet masks themselves have long been a staple in Asian skin care. Sheet masks hydrates and brightens the skin for a smooth, glowing complexion.

A sheet mask is a cloth saturated in skin-loving ingredients that you leave over your face for 15- 20 minutes so your skin can absorb all the amazing ingredients. There are handy cutouts for your nose, eyes and mouth so you don’t feel as though you're suffocating. The cotton sheets are actually doused in a serum-based formula. Most are packed full of vitamins, amino acids, and minerals. They won’t dry out the skin like a some of the mask formulas you can buy. What makes sheet masks so effective? These masks essentially ‘force-feed’ your skin an intense amount of active ingredients in a short period of time. The ‘sheet’ creates a barrier for your skin, so that these ingredients can be delivered effectively without risk of evaporation.

And so, on to our pick of the best:

BANOBAGI Vita Genic Jelly Masks:

Instead of traditional watery essence, these sheet masks are soaked in "liposome jelly" made with Jeju Island Water. Super nourishing due to the thicker jelly consistency.

SNP Masks:

So many good masks but I think I have no room so I  will mention 2 of my favourites.

Gold Collagen Ampoule Mask:

This ampoule mask has pig skin collagen and 24K gold as its primary active ingredients and this premium blend of ingredients enrich your skin's natural color and texture. This mask lifts the skin up and helps regenerate healthy skin cells for smoother, softer skin.

Diamond Brightening Ampoule Mask:

This mask promotes brightening and moisturizing. It is formulated of hyaluronic acid and diamond power. How posh is that! It delivers a huge amount of nutrients onto the skin.

INNISFREE It's Real Squeeze Masks:

Wow still amazing and going strong. So many masks and so many effects. One of my all-time favourite mask sheets! It's really hydrating and I love the scent of this.

Strawberry, Rice, Bamboo Green tea, Shea Butter, Rose, Manuka Honey and it goes on and on.......

TONY MOLY Pureness 100 Organic Masks:

I love Tony Moly products. I have yet to find a product of theirs that I don't love. It's a high quality, affordable brand. Can't say enough good things about Tony Moly!! As for the mask, it is EXTREMELY hydrating.

LEADERS CLINIC Masks:

Coconut Gel Mask with blueberry, broccoli, tomato or orange.

"The Korean Clinique," highly dermatologically trustworthy. This is the thickest of the masks here--not a strip of saturated cotton but a full face of gel.  Enjoy violet, green, red or orange energy. An intensive skincare mask made with fermented coconut juice. These mask delivers 10 x more hydration to the skin therefore effectively enhancing the skin's texture and complexion.

IT'S SKIN Prestige Masque D’escargot Mask:

This face mask contains essence that extracted from snail mucus - an ingredient with superior cell restoration, hydration and nourishment effects. It also contains EGF (epidermal growth factor) which helps to rejuvenate damaged and mature skin for young, smooth and dewy appearance. Maybe not as cheap as all the masks above but I do love it and use it as 'special occasion' mask.

How to use:

*Wash your face with mild cleanser

*Apply toner.

*Tear open the pouch at the top and pull out the mask. .

*Unfold the mask and place it on your face, aligning the holes with your eyes, nose and mouth.

*Leave it on  20-30 minutes.

Once you remove the sheet mask, remember to gently pat the remaining serum into your skin to aid absorption. And a quick tip – if there’s any serum sloshing around the inside of your sheet mask packet, apply this to your face, neck, and back of hands before you apply the sheet mask for maximum efficiency. Even around  your cleavage.

Chilling the mask in the fridge before each use makes the mask extra cooling for an added benefit.

So please try it, sheet masks provide intense hydration and nourishment and help repair damaged skin cells. You really need to use them in your beauty regime. And to make things more complicated now the big thing in Korea is a sheet mask for cellulite. Every few months, there’s a new variation. This can only mean one thing: Full-body sheet masks can’t be far off. I’ll be waiting, Korea.....
